ALEXANDRA is in immediate need of a foster home & is also available for adoption! We first met ALEXANDRA (ALLEY for short) on a Winter Outreach Mission. This is where we travel into the outlying rural areas to supply lifesaving provisions to chained & backyard dogs in need. ALLEY was our first stop of the day. She was chained with a heavy chain, in filth, no food, no water & a poor excuse for a doghouse :( It was evident how she ached for human attention as she greeted us excitedly with hugs & kisses!! She was so grateful for her new doghouse with straw for warmth, fresh food & water, a lightweight cable & harness to replace her heavy chain, toys & treats! Not long after, ALLEYS so called "family" tossed her away like trash & she landed in a very compassionate, yet small & rural shelter, with very few options. NMDOG was called & we welcomed her into our program with open arms! ALEXANDRA is a very affectionate girl, with so much love to give & an absolute heart of gold! She walks well on leash, is so super smart & eager to please & she rides great in the car! ALLEY does great with other dogs & we think she would do good in a home with cats as well. She wants nothing more than to be a treasured member of a family, to be included in their activities & adored....every dog deserves this! ALLEY is kid friendly too!! At appx 2 years old, she weighs around 55 lbs now that she is being fed good, nutritional food regularly. We dont expect her to get much bigger. Because of her urgent need for rescue & our ever present need for foster homes, ALLEY is currently in boarding. She would love to have a safe, loving foster home to reside in while we work hard to find her FoReVeR family! Please consider opening your home & your heart to this very deserving girl in need...fostering saves lives! With the money saved in boarding fees, NMDOG can afford to be there for the next chained dog that is desperately waiting for help to come. For so many....NMDOG is the only help they will find. Contact is today for more info on our foster program or to make sweet ALEXANDRA a FoReVeR part of your life! She will be anxiously waiting to hear from her special Angel! As an all volunteer, foster based rescue, NMDOG is ALWAYS in need of new, approved foster homes in order to continue our work SAVING LIVES!! If you see a dog that you are interested in & it says "NEEDS FOSTER", we are currently looking for a temporary foster home for that dog in order to remove him/her from their present situation. There is never a cost to foster for NMDOG & you will have the support of the NMDOG TEAM every step of the way. To learn more about the NMDOG foster program & to submit an application to become a treasured NMDOG foster guardian please send an email to foster@nmdog.org Our adoption fee is $250 which includes 6 weeks of obedience training (classes located in Albq) & a complimentary vet wellness check. All adopted dogs also receive free or discounted goodies & services from many of our awesome supporters!! Grooming, food, training, boarding, pet sitting & more. All of our available dogs have received a full medical & behavioral clearance prior to adoption. They are spayed or neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccinations, microchiped, dewormed, Heartworm tested & currently on HW/flea & tick preventative. • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Up-to-date with routine shots
  • Spayed/Neutered
AUTUMN is appx 2 yrs old, in need of a foster home & she is also available for adoption! On our many Bernalillo County Animal Cruelty Task Force Sweeps, we come across some of the worst cases of animal cruelty. Our most recent sweep was no different. At the last stop of the day, we discovered many chained dogs, sick & skinny pups & others in need...all at the same location. AUTUMN was one of those dogs. She has brought numerous litters of beautiful pups into the world, we try not to think about where those pups are now. Also seized from the location were AUTUMNS Mom, her daughter & grandkids...a total of 5 dogs. All have received the lifesaving care they needed & AUTUMN is doing great! AUTUMN is appx 2 yrs young, supper snuggly, with an adorabull personality! She has gained much needed weight & is now around 50 lbs, her fur is shiny & soft, all of her old wounds have healed. She will require bone/skin supplements & a high quality food for always. AUTUMNS good natured spirit is still intact, even after all of the neglect she suffered. She was scared & unsure when she first came to us, but never once protested. I believe she now understands that harm will never come to her again & has opened herself up to the LoVe that humans have to offer. AUTUMN walks nicely on her harness & leash, rides great in the car & absolutely loves to go for rides to get ice cream!! AUTUMN is a very loving & affectionate dog that is grateful for a chance at a wonderful new LIFE. She also loves to give kisses! All she lacks now is a place to call home....even if only a temporary foster home! A HOME for the Holidays is much better than the kennels!! Although AUTUMN has done well with other dogs in supervised situations & we believe she will only continue to improve...a home as an only dog for now would probably be best. AUTUMN is a great dog with a ton of potential. She just needs to continue to build her life skills & confidence level. Working within her current abilities with continued success is the best way for her to learn! Training will be provided for AUTUMNS foster &/or adopter! (we will consider multi dog placement in a home with extensive breed experience) Please consider giving AUTUMN the LIFE she deserves by becoming a treasured NMDOG foster guardian, or her FoReVeR guardian Angel. She has never known the comfort & security of living in a home as part of a family, we have promised her just that! Contact us today to arrange a meet & greet with this amazing girl in your home....AUTUMN is counting on it! As an all volunteer, foster based rescue, NMDOG is ALWAYS in need of new, approved foster homes in order to continue our work SAVING LIVES!! BETTS is appx 3 yrs old & is available for adoption!! Sweet, snuggable BETTS is a total lovemuffin of a dog!! She is ready for a home of her very own & has all the love in world to give!! BETTS came to us by way of our UNchain Bernalillo County support program when her previous guardian was unwilling to provide for her within the new zero tolerance anti tethering ordinance. We agreed to take BETTS into the NMDOG program & provide her with the life she deserves!! A home of her own with a family that adores her & the care every dog is entitled to! BETTS is just a perfect medium size of appx 45 lbs & is full grown. BETTS is full of affection to give & eager to learn about the new world around her. As long as she has someone wonderful to walk by her side...she will excel in anything she sets her mind to. BETTS can be a little shy & unsure at first, but once you are in....you are IN! She warms up super fast & is trusting that people will do her no more harm!! BETTS would make a wonderful family dog in a home with older children & she gets along great with other dogs!! BETTS walks well on a leash & rides super in the car. She loves vanilla ice cream cones & sunset walks along the river!! Currently BETTS is in a wonderful foster home, with foster siblings of all shapes & sizes..cats too! She is housetrained & cratetrained. BETTS will need a minimum 6 ft chainlink or wooden fence to keep her safe...no block walls. Contact us today to arrange for a meet & greet with BETTS in your home! Also seized from the location were EMMAS daughter, granddaughter & great grandkids...a total of 5 dogs. All have received the lifesaving care they needed & EMMA is doing great! EMMA is appx 3 yrs young, full of spunk & adorabull personality!! She has the ability to make you smile & giggle on even your worst of days. EMMA is now at a healthy weight of appx 55 lbs, she's not going to get any bigger! Her leg is healed up, considering she was left untreated with a broken leg, at the end of her chain for weeks. EMMA will need to remain on bone strengthening supplements & a high quality food for always. She is a happy & healthy girl today!! Her coat is now soft & full & she constantly has a wiggle in her walk!! EMMA loves to romp around in the play yard, tossing her toys up in the air & catching them! One day she chased a Butterfly...right into the pond! She really is one of the silliest, most entertaining dogs I have had the pleasure to know! Every day, with a smile on her face, she greets us as we tend to her needs! EMMA is currently in boarding. All she lacks in her life now is a place to call home....even if only a temporary foster home! A HOME for the Holidays is much better than the kennels!! Although EMMA has done well with other dogs in supervised situations & we believe she will only continue to improve...a home as an only dog for now would probably be best. (we will consider multi dog placement in a home with extensive breed experience) EMMA is just an all around joyful dog that is basking in the fact that she no longer lives in pain at the end of a chain, bringing litter after litter of pups into the world. We are grateful for that as well!! EMMA walks great on leash, rides well in the car & looooves rawhide chewies, politely giving them up when asked. Please consider giving EMMA the LIFE she deserves by becoming a treasured NMDOG foster guardian, or her FoReVeR guardian Angel. GNOME is available for adoption! Is this not the most adorable little guy you have ever seen? We fell in love the instant we met him. Wandering all alone in a ruff part of town...we scooped him right up & got him to safety. We looked for good people that might be missing him. Flyers were put up & he was posted on the local shelter websites. When his legal stray hold expired, GNOME remained unclaimed. GNOME was not neutered or microchipped & he was not wearing a collar or any ID. We took him to our clinic & had all of his needed vet work done & we found him a wonderful "Husky Pup Paradise" of a foster home! A treasured NMDOG family where he would have many Husky siblings to teach him well, keep him company & join him on little adventures in the yard! GNOME is a water Husky..he loves to splash & get his little paws wet. He loves to chase the lizards & nap in the afternoon sun on the deck. GNOME is also learning to interact appropriately with the felines of the house, but more than anything he loves playing chase with the other dogs :) He walks well on his leash + harness, is housetrained, crate trained & rides well in the car. He dreams of rainbows, butterflies. vanilla ice cream cones & a FoReVeR home to call his very own. GNOME has a blue eye'd Husky pup foster sister, NMDOG TESLA, just a few months older than him (& yes, as completely stunning!). She is also available for adoption! The two of them were fast friends the second they met. We think they would make a wonderful pair if adopted together, but that is not a requirement. Drop us an email to learn more about GNOME (& TESLA, if you are ready for double the Husky fun!) & all of the great support that comes with our adoptions. This is a wonderful & unique opportunity to add a young Husky ( or 2) to your life. We cant wait to hear from you...adorable little GNOME is counting on it! KOALAS story is very sad indeed. He once had a family, but they left him "with a friend" who didnt care to watch over him & allowed him to roam free...he was hit by a passing car. He found his way back to the driveway of his keepers house but no one came out to help him. A neighbor called in this severely injured little guy to animal control & they came. But they did nothing to help KOALA, they didnt even check to see if he was alive!! Instead, they issued a ticket for dog running at large & left him there, huddled in a small ball, shaking & soaking wet, with a severe head injury & in shock. The keeper of KOALA then called our vet clinic, asking for someone to come get him (??), to take away the "problem". Luckily for KOALA, she chose the right clinic, because they called us immediately & NMDOG came to his rescue! When I arrived at the location, I discovered him in this state, carefully scooped him up, got an surrender form signed & rushed him to the clinic for 911 care. We didnt even know if KOALA would make it! His core temp was 96 degrees, he was screaming in pain, confused & terrified. Xrays showed no broken bones, ultrasound showed no internal bleeding, but the trauma to his head was clear. After battling multiple seizures as a result & numerous days in the incubator, on pain management & anti inflamatory meds...KOALA began to come around. His screams decreased, the seizures stopped completely, his appetite increased & after nearly a week under close observation with a very guarded prognosis, we began to see some good progress! Once we were sure KOALA was on the road to recovery, he was released to a very special foster home to continue his healing journey. He has done incredibly well & has received a full medical clearance for adoption, miraculously with no long term concerns. KOALA is appx 1 year old & weighs right around 8 lbs. He will not get any bigger. His most fave things in the world are snuggling with his foster Mom, paying hide & go seek under fleece blankies, cooked chicken breast as a treat & knowing he is safe & adored! KOALA is great with other small dogs too...he has a few foster siblings that have helped him through the ruff times! we think he would do fine in a home with cats as well....nice cats! KOALA is ready for a special FoReVeR home of his very own & has a ton of LoVe to give! KOALA can be a little shy at first, but he warms up fast & has never tried to bite...even through his horrific & painful ordeal. If you are looking for a pint sized companion whose world will revolve around you, KOALA is your kid! Contact us today to make this little sweethearts dreams come true! We first met little puppy MINNOW during an Outreach Mission to a residence in Valencia County. You can read his original rescue story here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.678960905497356.1073741891.127407117319407&type=1 We were told of a home with many, many dogs, breeding indiscriminately, some possibly chained. So we got to work. We provided S/N for all of the age appropriate dogs on the property (5 total) along with dog food, toys & collars. We also took custody of a litter of pups & got them safely to puppy rescue. When we arrived to pick everyone up, we were made aware of a very sick left over pup from a different litter. We took little MINNOW to the vet right away & quickly he was diagnosed with Parvo. Emergency treatment was administered & MINNOW spent the next 5 days fighting for his life. This little guy is a fighter & thankfully he was able to make a full recovery. Then landed himself in a wonderful NMDOG post Parvo foster home with 2 awesome NMDOG Alumni foster brothers!! MINNOW has been growing stronger everyday...& growing bigger too! MINNOWS estimated dob is 1/24/14 & we expect he is going to grow up to be a pretty big boy, probably around 65-70 lbs.! We met them both during Outreach & they are both super sweet dogs. MINNOW has adjusted well to life in a loving foster home...with 2 big boy brother dogs to ruff & tumble with, a little Pomeranian foster sister dog & even a kitty to lay hide & go seek! MINNOW is housetrained, cratetrained & walks well on his leash + harness! He has received a full medical clearance, all necessary & routine vetting & now MINNOW is ready for a happily ever FoReVeR to call his own. He is going to make a wonderful addition to a very lucky home. Contact us to arrange a meet & greet with this super smart, super happy & adorable little guy! NOODLE is appx 3 yrs old & is available for adoption. NOODLE got his name because he has an ADORABLE "big ol noodle head" He is as sweet as he looks & is full of signature Pibble wiggles, wags & slobbers! NOODLE was abandoned by his previous people, chained with a 2 ft chain to the under carriage of a semi truck. Left without food, water, adequate shelter or companionship, barely able to lay down. It was only when the property owner came to inspect the abandoned property that NOODLE was SAVED! He still has a goofy outlook on life, despite the way he was treated. We are LUCKY to have found him & have him in our program. NOODLE brings a SMILE to the face of everyone he meets. He is ready to find his special someone. Someone that will treasure him for the AMAZING dog he is. Someone that will always act responsibly & keep him SAFE! Someone that will give him their heart, as he will give you his! NOODLE successfully participated in our "Pit Bull Focus" program, receiving that little "extra" he needed to be ready for adoption. He is now excelling towards his full potential in his awesome foster home as a wonderful breed ambassador & has gained a ton of experience on how to be the best indoor dog he can be!! NOODLE has 2 pretty little companion Pittie mix foster siblings & a tank of a foster brother that he loves to play & explore with. He learns from them & with the guidance of his foster parents, how to properly interact & enjoy the company of other dogs. We are so proud of his progress! With many of our adoptions, (& on a case by case basis), we require completion of the obedience training course included with every adoption. Continued post adoption training with NOODLE will be expected. He is a fantastic dog that thrives on learning!! Training will be rewarding for everyone involved! We prefer a home without small children for NOODLE Mac DOODLE! Contact us today to arrange a meet & greet with NOODLE in your home! STARSKY is available for adoption! STARSKY & his buddy HUTCH were left at the end of their chains to endure hot lonely days & endless frgid nights...for many, many years. They never knew the comfort of a soft bed, a warm meal or the kindness of a soft spoken word. Until one day a handful of people came together to change their lives. STARSKY & HUTCH were rescued from their heartbreaking existence & given the care they always deserved. You can follow this link to our facebook page to read their original rescue story & see pics of their journey https://www.facebook.com/notes/nmdog/2-chained-huskies-in-desperate-need-of-our-help-nmdog-was-there-one-is-heartworm/825182970831005 STARSKY is appx 4 years young, he has a heart as big as the sun & a bright personality to match! STARSKY was diagnosed with Heartworm disease when he entered the NMDOG Program, but he has since completed treatment & has received a full medical clearance for adoption. HW is a fatal condition if left untreated, yet takes only a small step of prevention to avoid. Treatment is expensive & can be very hard on the dog...but STARSKY responded like a champ. He is stronger & healthier today than ever! He has had the love & support of a wonderful foster family every step of the way, giving him the care & confidence he needed. Fostering saves lives & for STARSKY...his foster made all of the difference in the world. STARSKY is an affectionate & snuggly Husky that gets along well with other dogs. He rides great in the car, loves disco music & vanilla ice cream cones :) STARSKY is housetrained, crate trained & walks great on his leash + harness. He deserves the best life has to offer & has waited a long time for FoReVeR to come. It will be a very lucky family that gets to spend their days (& nights) with this special boy. Please visit this link on our website to submit your adoption app & arrange for a meet & greet with STARSKY! TESLA is available for adoption! TESLA might be part cat, we think she has 9 lives...at least :) The first time we met this gorgeous girl, she was running down the middle of the interstate, cars zooming past her at 70 mph. Im pretty sure everyone closed their eyes at the same time & when we opened them, she was on the other side! Unharmed! We quickly corralled her off the fwy & into an arroyo, where she eluded us in the tunnels for nearly an hour. Once she resurfaced, we were able to contain her in a friends nearby office parking lot. We scanned for a chip (unregistered, yet traceable to her breeder), gave her fresh water & kudos for her cat like, ninja skills! We are glad she finally decided to let us catch her :) Her breeder was contacted, yet had no interest in her & she was legally released to NMDOG. When TESLA first came to us she was malnourished (which our vet attributes to her overall small frame), full of internal parasites & her coat felt like straw. There is no excuse for any "reputable breeder" to turn their back on one of their own. We appreciate the opportunity to be there for TESLA, ensuring she will have the kind of home she deserves. She is doing much better now..eating well & gaining some much needed weight. Shes received her required vetting, a bath & her fur is already beginning to shine...much like her very sweet personality. Since getting to know her we have learned a few things. It is pretty clear that wherever TESLA used to "live" wasn't all that great, because a.) she ran away b.) she looked like crap & c.) she cant stand to be left alone, afraid that her people will leave her. This tells us that she spent a good part of her young life isolated & kept from her pack (human or canine, this was her "family"). We have also learned that TESLA is incredibly loving & she is completely content when she has her people around her. She is smart, affectionate & sweet. TESLA is very well mannered & has learned so much in a very short period of time. In order to set TESLA up for success, we will be seeking a home for her where her parents work from home, or a stay at home Mom (TESLA would do great with kids!). Maybe someone that can take TESLA to work with them, where she would prove to be a well behaved companion. Really, the sky is the limit for this wonderful girl & she has a lot of LoVe & loyalty to share. Today TESLA is in a wonderful NMDOG foster home where she is learning what it means to be a treasured member of the pack! She is housetrained, walks great on her leash + harness, shares her toys & loves to take naps on the deck. TESLA has older Husky foster siblings & 2 right around her age. She also shares supervised time with 2 Italian Greyhound sisters & is learning how to properly interact with the cats. Her little foster brother, NMDOG GNOME, is also available for adoption. He is little blue eye'd Husky pup, around 5 mos old & the 2 of them were fast friends the second they met. They would make a wonderful pair if adopted together, but that is not a requirement. Drop us an email to learn more about TESLA (& GNOME, if you are ready for double the Husky fun!) & all of the great support that comes with our adoptions. This is a wonderful & unique opportunity to add a young Husky ( or 2) to your life. We cant wait to hear from you...TESLA is counting on it! WALLABY is in need of a foster home & is also available for adoption! We first met WALLABY at the Animal Welfare Coalition Shelter in Las Vegas, NM. Much of his history is unknown, but he carried a heavy burden with him, as his time ran out at the shelter. WALLABY sat day in & day out in the shelter, never complaining, but becoming more withdrawn from the world around him. For months he watched the younger dogs & puppies get adopted, transferred to partner rescues, taken to adoption events & onto their new lives. Yet WALLABY sat, nearly invisible & with a heavy heart. Older dogs..big black & brindle male dogs....are often overlooked. But WALLABY stood out to us. We saw beyond his rough, worn coat, his droopy head, his flattened ears & his lack of interest in much of anything. We saw beyond the fact that WALLABY pretty much refused to walk on leash, was not eager to make eye contact & wore his years in the greys of his muzzle. WALLABY was picked up by San Miguel Co animal control as a stray, wandering alone in the middle of nowhere. He had a sad, forlorn energy about him. But what we saw was the kindness of his heart, the sorrow in his deep brown soulful eyes & underneath it all....the spirit of an amazing dog. We pulled WALLABY out of the shelter that day & carried him (literally! lol) into a brand new world. WALLABYS new world would be full of understanding, patience, LoVe & determination to see him smile! We took him to the vet to be neutered, HW tested, microchipped & vaccinated. We took him to the groomer to wash away years of living outside on his own. He closed his eyes & welcomed the soft touch, the warm water & attention he was given. WALLABY relaxed for the first time since I met him. It was this day that I first saw WALLABY walk with his held held high & the faint distinction of a smile on his face. It was...the first day of the rest of his life. Since then, WALLABY has learned to walk confidently on leash, he smiles whenever he sees us & he talks! He prances with us in the yard & rolls in the grass! WALLABYS amazing spirit has been brought back to life. WALLABY is appx 6 years young, he is gentle & calm, great with other dogs, walks well on his leash + harness & rides great in the car. He has learned to use the doggy door & during a weekend getaway from the kennel...he had no accidents in the house. WALLABY longs for a special person in his life, one that will realize & treasure the amazing dog that he is. WALLABY is a SoulDog....looking for his Soulmate & he has all of the LoVe in the world to give. Currently WALLABY is in boarding & he would love more than anything to be in a home, as part of a family. He is in immediate need of a foster family to welcome him into the hearts..until his FoReVeR family is found. Please consider giving our boy WALLABY the comfort, the companionship & the life he deserves. He will be your very best friend, trusting & loyal. WALLABY loves to read old western novels, fireside naps & walks along the river. Give WALLABY a chance to share his soul with you....I promise he will steal your heart. Contact us today to arrange a meet & greet with WALLABY...he's counting on it.
