The Breakdown of Costs

Here is a breakdown of the minimum cost involved in order for NMDOG to take in a dog….

BOARDING – We pay $12 per day to board our dogs at a private kennel. To keep them safe and get them out of the desperate situation they are in. During their time in boarding, we provide volunteers to walk, exercise, socialize, play with, and LOVE these dogs. Each dog is given a doggie pool in the summer, a kuranda bed & toys in their 20×20 (indoor or outdoor) run. We provide the dogs with the medical care they need, we have them groomed and start them on a healthy diet. We assess the temperaments of each dog to determine the best home environment for them and formulate a rehabilitation/training plan. We then begin the work of finding a suitable foster and/or forever home.

**2 weeks in boarding costs $168

BASIC INTAKE VETTING – We pay $60 for a neuter and $80 for a routine spay. Dew claw removal is $50 per paw. We will call the average price for s/n $90; full vaccination on an adult dog includes Rabies, Bordatella and Dhlpp = $35;; 4dx Heartworm test (tests for Lyme, Ehrlichia and Anaplamosis) and one month Heartworm preventative = $40;; microchip = $10;; one month topical flea & tick preventative = $10;; deworm = $5

**total cost for the very basic vetting upon intake is $200 (most of our dogs require much more)

FOOD, GROOMING & SUPPLIES – this includes one bag of food, bowls, martingale collar and tag, freedom harness and leash, toys, bed & blankie

**all of these things go with our dogs to their FoReVeR homes = $77

6 WEEKS OF OBEDIENCE TRAINING – All of our dogs come with 6 weeks of obedience training post- adoption. Many of our dogs enroll once they find their foster home. If an NMDOG foster dog has already attended class, we are not charged for them to go through class again with their adoptive family. So some of our dogs are attending class twice!

TOTAL COST TO INTAKE A DOG INTO THE NMDOG PROGRAM = $505
