Zelda & CoCo, Valencia County, NM

In 2022, Valencia County NM adopted zero tolerance anti-chaining language into their animal welfare ordinance. Ever since, we have been working with Valencia County Animal Control as a frontline resource for those who want to do better for their pups & those seeking assistance coming into compliance with this ordinance.

In the past 2 years…we have built over a dozen safe & secure fences for ValCo chained dogs. These are the latest 2 little LoVeNuggets who have benefitted from the #NMDOG Fencing Assistance PRogram #UNchainMyDog – meet Zelda (HuskyX) & CoCo (PittieX) ❤
When we arrived to the location to complete our initial assessment, our hearts broke for the dogs living conditions & we knew we had to put a rush on things! So we got busy! On Feb 2nd, our fencing team traveled to the Los Lunas residence & #UNchained these 2 sweet & deserving dogs 🥰 Paws high to their guardians for accepting our help & wanting their dogs to live better, safer lives!
Spay/Neuter is the answer & no dog should ever be chained ❣️ ***NMDOG fencing assistance contracts require that all animals on the property be S/N/vaccinated & microchipped (provided by NMDOG), any able bodied human resident must pitch in & help on build day, daily care must be maintained going forward…among a few other things.

There is tons of prep & assessment that goes into every NMDOG fence build, as well as attentive follow up. We had a strong build team on site…they are all selfless heros 🥰 BIG LOVE to our small but mighty crew ~ Brittany, Shannon & Michael! Angela & Brittany returned the following day to add some additional security for our Husky friend who was determined to climb over. We got it done & they have had no issues since!

At NMDOG, we believe all dogs should live inside as part of the family – but we understand that is not the reality for 1000s across the state of NM. Our goal with the NMDOG Fencing Assistance Program is to provide more freedom, safety & a better quality of life for as many chained dogs as we possibly can, while educating their guardians to the dangers of chaining, daily care best practices & empowering them with support & resources 🐶🐶
