Receiving emergency fluids

Recently, NMDOG received this poor girl into our care by way of the Las Vegas, NM animal shelter where she was impounded as an “owner surrender” by animal control. Her story makes my heart hurt 🙁 TIGER LILLY was chained her whole life and she is just a baby herself at the young age of 18 months old. But in her short life, she suffered unspeakably. Here is what we know: TIGER LILLY was chained, as so many dogs in this area are. She gave birth (timeline is shifty) to an unconfirmed number of pups. It was said to Animal Control that a “rescue lady” came and took custody of the live pups, as many of them were found dead as a result of becoming tangled in their moms chain…

Well…we work very closely with all LEGITIMATE rescue folks in this area and it was none of them that took the pups. Fail #1 We were also told that the deceased pups were thrown in the garbage by this person! Fail #2 This “rescue person” in fact left this emaciated, very sick girl to die in this condition at the end of her chain without contacting anyone to help! It is very clear to the folks in this small community who to contact with such situations and that was not done. No true rescue person would choose such a cowardly, irresponsible path. This makes us very mad! What has become of the surviving pups? What would have become of TIGER LILLY if she had not been rescued? How could someone just leave her there in this condition without letting anyone know? She was left to suffer for weeks after her puppies were taken. Because her people choose to surrender her willingly, there will be no charges filed. But at least we can rest knowing she will no longer suffer & we can now focus on her GOOD life ahead!

Where Tiger Lilly would have died…

TIGER LILLY presented upon intake with a temp of 103, she weighed in at 40 lbs: nearly 30 lbs underweight. Her ears had recently been crudely cut, and they were still bleeding when we got her. From her behavior, it is clear she was beaten quite badly. TIGER LILLY spent a week hospitalized before she was well enough to transfer to her fabulous foster home….where she is now, resting, healing, and learning to become a treasured member of a family! Because of TIGERS terrible body condition when she came to us, we needed to allow her to gain some strength and some weight before having her spayed. But was soon discovered that TIGER LILLY suffered from Piometria, a condition which causes septic infection from the uterus and can easily be fatal if not treated. She was immediately scheduled for an emergency spay and we crossed everything we had in hopes she would make it through ok! She did, thank goodness, and she continues to recover from her whole ordeal! Soon TIGER LILLY will be able to leave the horrors of her past behind her, but she does have a long road ahead. TIGER LILLY is nervous around new people, places, and things. She still cowers when we move too fast or reach to pet her head 🙁 But with her medical concerns now hopefully under control, we can focus completely on healing her heart! Please help us recover some of the cost of this 911 rescue.

As with most of our rescues, we are not able to post the need until they have already landed in our care. By nature, the majority of our rescues are not planned, are not expected and need to be removed from their current situation without much thought. It is then, after the fact, that we must reach out to recoup the cost, as they always make a huge dent in the bank account. But we must be able to be there at the drop of a hat and we have to have faith that what they need will be provided. If we left those in need where they were until we knew we were able to cover the cost, its likely that many of them would never make it! So we act first, in order to SAVE a life! We are grateful for the support that makes this possible!
